For many families, the local regional child development and treatment centre is their main point of contact for specialized medical support and publicly-funded rehabilitation therapies.
A range of services may be recommended based on an assessment of your child, and these centres can provide access to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and psychometry. Specialized clinics can include orthopedics, seating clinics, feeding clinics and augmentative communication programs.
Most centres request a referral from a family physician, but some services can be accessed by parent or community service provider referrals. The agency websites are all really informative and will provide specific information for your region.
