The Children’s Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses, as well as serious neurological and genetic conditions. They are a Canadian organization that has granted more than 25000 wishes, and proudly boasts no waiting list.
Who is eligible to be referred?
The child must be a Canadian resident, ages 3-17, who has been diagnosed with an illness that is deemed life-threatening, including some serious neurological and genetic disorders. Upon approval, a child has up to 5 years or until their 18th birthday to fulfil their wish, whichever comes first. If required, they are able to arrange wishes in a matter of days. One wish may be made per child.
What can be wished for?
Wishes includes travel, celebrity meetings, or specific items. For travel wishes, Blue Cross provides full insurance for the family (waiving the pre-existing condition clause for the wish child), and medical equipment and attendant care is arranged, where required and available.
Who can make a referral?
Anyone can refer a child by calling 1-800-267-WISH (9474). More information is available on their website.
